Have you ever been told that success in private practice is “lucky”?

Have you ever been told that success in private practice is “lucky”?

It's a phrase I've heard time and time again, and it got me thinking about what actually drives success in this field.

Maybe it's not about luck at all— maybe it's about confidence— the kind that screams, "Yes, I’m the one that can help you," backed by solid skills and experience. Clients can sense that assurance, and it builds trust from the get-go.

Let's be real: It might look like some of us have it easier, but launching a successful practice is never a walk in the park. It takes grit, determination and a loooot of hard work.

Navigating the Elements of “Luck” in Private Practice:

Areas I Got Lucky: One stroke of luck for me was when my collaborating physician passed on some overflow clients. Sure, they were calling for her, but with the right approach, I turned those calls into loyal patients of my own.

Neutral Areas: Living in a bustling city like LA might seem like luck due to its dense population, but it's not just about quantity. There's a mix of patients from all walks of life here, which means both opportunities and competition.

Areas I Didn’t Get Lucky: Then there are the times when luck was MIA. I was diagnosed with cancer shortly after launching my practice—a setback that tested my resilience but ultimately strengthened my resolve.

Navigating through three different collaborating physicians wasn't exactly lucky either. It took time and effort to find the right match—one that aligned with my values and vision for patient care.
